After Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990, the United Nations intervened with a stern resolution warning Iraq to withdraw or United States and UN forces would drive them out. Iraq refused, and Operation Desert Storm began. In 100 hours the American-led coalition destroyed the world’s fourth largest army. It was one of the most successful assaults in modern warfare. But after four days, the fighting stopped and Saddam was left in power. Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the United States government declared a “Global War on Terrorism.” In 2003, Iraq became a second front in the war on terrorism with Operation Iraqi Freedom. Once again the American and Allied forces made quick work of the Iraqi army and toppled Saddam.
With the complete assistance of the US armed forces, interviews with government officials, dozens of veterans and active duty personnel, and exclusive video shot by the combat personnel, this is the most complete story of those operations in Iraq as well as his US supported war with Iran.
